The 31 Days of Scary

The 31 Days of Scary – Day 28: Sinking

When you feel the sun warm on your face,
When the land rises to meet you,
And takes you from place to place,
Sink into the cool, cold water of memory
Recall the sirens who called out to you

When you hear the gentle murmur of trees,
With the wind at your back,
Pushing you onward with the breeze,
Sink into the cool, cold water of memory
Recall the sirens swimming towards you.

When you taste the sweetness of blackberries,
And savour the flavour of forbidden fruit,
Biting into the succulence of ripe, ripe cherries,
Sink into the cool, cold water of memory
Recall the kiss of those sirens pulling you

When you take in the aroma of your loved ones’ hair,
Or when you can’t see them,
But you know they’re there,
Sink into the cool, cold water of memory
Recall the siren and those you lost, on the tide, that night.

When you see the stars at night,
And take a step out into darkness
And you’re shrouded in moonlight,
Sink into the cool, cold water of memory
Think of those you lost, that night,
Shrouded in your remembrance, and sinking.
